Core exercise, best for low back pain?
With the large variety of exercise options and equipment available, it can be hard to decide what is best for your back. I am a big advocate of doing what you enjoy. Dust of that bike or get your running shoes on, as long as you are having fun and getting your workout done. There are a few exercises you can add to your routine that will help with back pain.

Most often people understand this as abdominal exercises (such as sit ups or crunches), but might ignore the other muscles that are surrounding the lower spine.
Research has shown that a strong ‘core’ makes a big difference in lower back pain. Along with the large muscle groups, there are quite a few smaller muscles that are equally important in spine stability.
Plank Exercises
No, this is not the once popular “planking” that kids were doing, but rather a group of stability exercises that help strengthen the core muscles. It involves holding a fixed position to adding some extra movements to add difficulty depending on your fitness level. For the purpose of this newsletter, well go over the basics.
1. Always keep your back straight. If you need to, you can do them on your knees before progressing.
2. Hold your position steady, count slowly and breathe.
3. If your back starts to hurt, discontinue. Everyone is different and you might need to modify or try something else first. Let me know, I am more than happy to talk to you.
4. Warm up before by walking or stretching gently.
