Stores, Shopping Bags and Family…
Oh My Back!

Christmas stress shopping woman

We all know it is a busy time of year. Many of us travel, stand in kitchens with loved ones chatting, go shopping or volunteer in the community.
It is also a busy time of year for physical aches and pains. Here are some tips to survive the holidays.
Shopping

Carrying heavy bags from store to store can put stress on the lower back and shoulders.

  • Plan your trip in stages. Go to the stores that have the smaller, lighter items you will be buying and then work your way up.
  • If you feel comfortable and can hide your packages, consider dropping them off in the car. Be wary of thieves!
  • Bring a backpack instead of a purse.  Trying to hold  a purse on your shoulder, plus carry bags is not optimal.
  • Shop during slower days and times to limit the amount of time carrying
  • Distribute your purchases between bags so they are even.
  • Bring friends and family to help!
  • Wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated
Traveling
Cooking , Family and Parties
  • If you are standing on a hard surface wear comfortable shoes
  • Careful lifting heavy objects out of the oven
  • Plan ahead where you are going to put heavy objects like presents or heavy dishes.
  • Stand close to the counter when cooking
  • Go for a walk to loosen up  your back and shoulders.
Have questions? Just ask!

Once again thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter, I am always striving to provide useful information. If you have questions or would like me to address a question in upcoming issues, just let me know!
Sincerely,
Susan Loehrer-Bradshaw D.C.
