For those traveling here are some tips to help you arrive at your destination with a smile on your face.
Pack light
Try not to over pack your luggage. Remember that you will have to carry it up steps, pull it behind you, lift it off the luggage pick up, take it out of a car, etc…
Ice is your friend
On long car rides, bring an ice pack along with you. Most back pain is associated with inflammation, an ice pack can help reduce swelling and numb the area a bit. We’re having quite the mild winter, so icing won’t seem so miserable!
Take Breaks
Sitting stationary for a long period of time is horrible for your back and body. Even just a few minutes of standing and stretching (remember to stretch your legs as well) can make a big difference.
Stay hydrated
Traveling takes a toll on your body, especially if you are relying on coffee and sodas to keep you moving and awake. Even the smallest amount of dehydration can cause headaches and pains. Keep an extra bottle of water handy!
Sit properly
Try not to cross your legs for long periods of time. If you are driving, have your seat close enough to the pedals so that you are not sitting awkwardly. Scoot your toosh all the way back into the seat. If your seat back does not have support in the lower back, you can use a very small pillow or rolled up towel for added support.
And of course, before you leave remember to stop in for an adjustment so you are feeling your best before the travel!
Happy holidays, and thank you for being a part of Lone Star Chiropractic. I also want to thank everyone for the kind words last month after I announced my marriage. I appreciate all of you!
